Greywater Holding Tank Installation, Roswell, GA

img_2489In Roswell, GA, Action Septic Tank Service added a new separate greywater system to divert washing machine water away from the septic tank. See the attached photos.

This East Cobb installation included adding a greywater holding tank and high capacity chamber. The purpose of the holding tank is to collect and filter the greywater from the washing machine. This reduces the amount of effluent being handled by the septic tank and dispersed to the drainfield.

Greywater is gently used water from washing machines, showers, sinks, tubs and dishwashers. It may have traces of dirt, lint, sediment, sand, food, grease, cleaning products etc., but does not come into contact with sewage, also known as blackwater. However, under certain conditions, it is possible that traces of sewage may enter and contaminate greywater.

Greywater is safer to handle, easier to treat and contains fewer pathogens than wastewater. Where regulated, greywater can be reused for irrigation and acts as a valuable nutrient for plants. It is important to note that specific guidelines should be followed for greywater reuse. Greywater should not be released into lakes, rivers, streams and estuaries since its nutrients are pollutants.

Alpharetta GA Onsite Septic Repair

septic tank service alpheretta marietta atlanta georgia

For this Alpharetta, GA onsite septic project, Action Septic Tank Service repaired a residential septic system. On this job, we discovered the outlet end of the second septic tank buried underneath the fence post. Irrigation lines as well as the wiring for the sprinkler system were also running overtop the septic tank. All of the above made the work more complicated.

In order to access the outlet baffle and service the septic filter, we had to remove the obstructive portion of the fence. We also installed new septic risers on both tanks and brought them up to ground level. This makes it easier and more efficient to access the tanks without having to use a tractor and disturb the ground or sprinkler system. The troublesome part of the fence was also repositioned so it is no longer on top of the second tank. You can see the attached before-and-after photos of our work.

Septic Line Repair, Roswell, GA

image1-2In Roswell, GA, Action Septic Tank Service repaired a crushed, clogged septic line. See the photos attached.

Broken and crushed septic lines can cause backups and septic failure. When this occurs, you will see and smell sewage in and around your home.

Soil settling is one cause of damaged septic lines. Older, cast iron and ceramic lines can rust and corrode over time. Tree root intrusion also leads to clogged and broken pipes. Parking or driving heavy machinery and vehicles over your septic system may crush and collapse your lines as well.

Action Septic Tank Service suggests some of the following best practices to help keep your septic lines clear and free of clogs and breaks. Service your septic system on a regular basis. We urge our customers to have their septic tanks pumped every two years. Carefully plan your landscaping and plant trees and shrubs away from the septic system. Conserve water to prevent hydraulic overloading. You can use water-saving faucets, shower heads and toilets, take shorter showers, repair leaks and run your dishwasher and washing machine only for full loads. Avoid parking or driving heavy machinery over your septic system. Keep diapers, wipes, feminine hygiene products, coffee grounds, grease and other common cloggers from going down your drains.

In Alpharetta – Johns Creek, GA, Action Septic Tank Service replaced broken septic lids on a homeowner’s septic tank. See the attached photo. Rainy weather affects your septic system. The drainfield, or soil absorption system, is designed to manage a certain amount of water. When rainwater fills the septic system, there’s less available space for wastewater collection. To help avoid rain infiltration, your septic tank should be watertight, otherwise rainwater can enter the system and allow sewage to seep into the drainfield. Septic riser lids need not be broken and must be properly sealed. Broken riser lids like the ones shown in the attached photo have to be replaced. Careful landscape planning is important so that runoff water is directed away from your djainfield. Continue to monitor your septic system especially during rainy weather. Signs of rain infiltration may include patches of greener grass in your yard, depressions in the ground over the septic tank and surfacing effluent.

Septic Distribution Box Installation, Cumming, GA

action septic tank service atlanta georgiaIn Cumming, GA, Action Septic Tank Service added a new distribution box to a homeowner’s septic system. See the photo attached.

Your distribution box is usually made of concrete or plastic and is located between the septic tank and the drainfield. With the use of gravity, it distributes the effluent, or wastewater, to the drainfield. The effluent leaves the septic tank and travels through the inlet pipe to the distribution box. The wastewater is dispersed from the distribution box through the outlet pipe that leads to a series of trenches in the soil.

When installed, your distribution box must be level so that the effluent is evenly distributed, otherwise uneven loading occurs and parts of the soil trenches become overloaded. Over time, the distribution box may tilt. This is sometimes caused by the freezing and thawing of the ground during winter and spring. If the wastewater is unevenly dispersed, and some of the distribution pipes become overloaded, your septic system will fail and you may notice untreated wastewater surfacing in your yard. Equal wastewater distribution is necessary to help maximize the life of your septic system. Action Septic Tank Service recommends having the distribution box checked during your yearly septic inspection.

Milton, GA Septic System Installation

image1In Milton, GA, Action Septic Tank Service installed a new concrete septic tank and system. See the attached photo grid to view some of our work.

Whether installing, repairing or replacing your septic tank, it’s important to carefully consider your options and learn about the advantages and disadvantages. With any septic tank design, proper septic service, maintenance and care are always recommended for optimal performance.

Concrete septic tanks are durable and can last for a very long time. However, concrete is susceptible to cracking and breaking, especially if a poor quality mixture has been used. This may cause effluent to seep out of the tank or allow groundwater to come inside, both of which are problematic. There are precast concrete septic tanks available for purchase. These tanks are heavy duty, can be made watertight and will last for many years. Precast concrete septic tanks are non-toxic and environmentally friendly, too.

Polyethylene and fiberglass septic tanks come with single or double chambers. They are durable, resistant to rusting or corrosion, lightweight, watertight and repairable if damaged. They are easier to haul and install and are also less likely to crack from tree root intrusion. Riser lids and other connections fit tightly on polyethylene and fiberglass tanks which helps to reduce odors. Compared to concrete tanks, these plastic tanks are more prone to structural damage. Since polyethylene and fiberglass septic tanks are lightweight, they could potentially rise or float in wet weather so they must be carefully and correctly installed.

Aerobic treatment systems use oxygen to increase the break down of organic matter, quickly decompose solids and reduce the concentration of pathogens in wastewater. They are more complex, expensive, require electricity and need frequent maintenance and service. With proper care, aerobic treatment systems are better able to produce high-quality effluent indefinitely.

Proper Septic Care and Service, Alpharetta, GA

Action septic tank service

In Alpharetta, GA, Action Septic Tank Service pumped a commercial septic tank. Servicing your septic system on a routine basis will help to improve its performance. We highly recommend scheduling annual septic inspections and pumping your tank every 2-3 years.

Conventional septic systems include a septic tank, distribution box and soil absorption system. Inside the septic tank, the solid and liquid wastes are separated. The sludge settles to the bottom of the tank, the scum floats to the top and the wastewater makes up the middle layer. Before the wastewater is distributed to the ground, it is further treated by the soil absorption system.

When septic systems fail, untreated wastewater is released into the soil. You may notice some of the following in and around your home or business: pooling effluent around your septic tank or drainfield, foul odors, slow drains, gurgling toilets and patches of greener grass in your yard.

Failing septic systems are harmful and can leak bacteria to rivers, lakes and oceans. Untreated wastewater contains waterborne pathogens and can spread diseases to animals and humans.

Action Septic Tank Service urges you to properly care for your septic system. Suggestions include servicing your system on a regular basis, conserving water, installing water-saving faucets and shower heads, maintaining detailed records, keeping a drawing of your system on file, running downspouts away from your home or business, preventing fats, oils, grease and other non-biodegradables from going down your drains and growing only grass above your septic system.

Corrugated Pipe Installation, East Cobb, GA

In Milton, GA, Action Septic Tank Service installed septic tank risers

In East Cobb County, GA, Action Septic Tank Service replaced this broken concrete septic line with a new corrugated plastic pipe. See the attached photos.

Concrete septic lines are often found in older applications. Though durable and long lasting, concrete lines have disadvantages. Concrete is expensive. The material is also very heavy and more difficult to install. Concrete lines may crack and leak, especially when exposed to extreme pressure.

Action Septic Tank Service recommends installing plastic lines, like the corrugated one shown in the attached photo, for your on-site system. Corrugated plastic lines are lightweight and less expensive. They are resistant to cracking, rusting, corroding and chemical scouring. Plastic pipes are also structurally strong and able to support large loads. They demonstrate an excellent flow rate, have the ability to relax under stress and are consistently sized.

Septic Biomat & Treatment, Sandy Springs, GA

In Sandy Springs, GA, Action Septic Tank Service treated a homeowner’s septic system. For info about our recommended septic treatment, call 770-922-1434 and read our Action Digest

Adding a septic treatment to your on-site system helps to balance the biological mat (biomat). Biomat, a black, slimy, jelly-like layer that forms along the bottom and sidewalls of the drainfield trenches, effectively treats the effluent and reduces the solids.

The biomat removes pathogens and viruses from the soil, yet also restricts the flow of effluent through the drainfield. As the biomat develops, the soil becomes less permeable, making it more difficult to accept water. Hydraulic overloading often occurs which causes septic backups in or around your house. You may have slow drains, gurgling toilets or surfacing effluent in your yard.

It is important to allow the septic biomat to naturally form. Septic tank filters, outlet baffle filters, proper maintenance, septic tank pumping, septic inspections and water conservation may help to slow down the development of the biomat. We recommend adding a Lenzyme septic treatment to your system as well. Each box contains a one-year supply of powder packets. In addition to the septic packets, Lenzyme also offers a septic kit to help treat and restore your on-site system with formulated bacteria additives.

Roswell, GA Septic Treatment

In Roswell, GA Action Septic Tank Service pumped a homeowner’s septic system. Further recommendations include pumping the septic tank every two to three years and adding a monthly septic treatment to the system.

Action Septic Tank Service urges our customers to treat their on-site septic systems with Lenzyme products. We have trusted these septic products for years and our customers are very satisfied with the results.

The Lenzyme septic packets are used to replenish the natural bacteria needed to maintain a balanced septic system. Each box consists of 12 premeasured Lenzyme powder packets. Properly treat your septic system by adding one packet every month. You may purchase your Lenzyme packets directly through Action Septic Tank Service.

In addition to the septic packets, Lenzyme also offers a septic kit to help treat and restore your on-site system with formulated bacteria additives.
