Installing D-Box Speed Levelers, Alpharetta, GA

Installing D-Box Speed Levelers, Alpharetta, GA

In Alpharetta, GA, Action Septic Tank Service installed a distribution box with speed levelers. See the levelers in the attached photo.

Speed levelers regulate the flow of effluent from the distribution box. They allow for equal distribution to your drainfield. Speed levelers are inserted into each outlet pipe. The Flo-Holes are then rotated to the desired flow rate. Speed levelers are engineered to fit different PVC pipes. They're watertight, resistant to corrosion and eliminate the need to dig up and relevel your distribution box.

For additional information about distribution boxes, please read Septic Distribution Box Installation.

Dunwoody, GA Septic Lid Replacement

septic tank cleaning maintenance repar dunwoody ga

In Dunwoody, GA, Action Septic Tank Service removed and replaced a cracked septic lid. See the attached photo of the damaged lid.

Unsecured, cracked, broken, damaged, rusty and rotten septic lids may collapse and cause tragic and fatal accidents. Septic lids must be properly installed and attached so that unauthorized access is prohibited. Exposure to raw and open sewage is dangerous. Sewage carries harmful bacteria, viruses and parasites which may cause serious illness and infection.

Only a licensed septic professional should service your septic tank. Here are some other important  safety practices to follow:

  • Keep away from the septic tank whenever it is being serviced. Open septic tanks should never be left unattended.
  • Properly secure septic lids and access ports.
  • Watch for sinking soil and rusty or flimsy septic lids.
  • Keep vehicles and heavy machinery from parking or driving over the septic system.
  • Use caution when locating and digging.
  • Beware of septic backups and surfacing effluent in your yard.
  • Completely avoid leaning over or stepping into the septic tank.
  • Mark off dangerous sites.

Leachfield Repair, Cumming, GA

Leachfield Repair, Cumming, GA

In Cumming, GA, Action Septic Tank Service repaired a residential septic system. This included installing a distribution box and adding high capacity chamber. See the attached photos.

For this onsite septic project, Action Septic Tank Service installed a plastic Infiltrator distribution box. The septic distribution box evenly distributes effluent to the leachfield lines, or trenches. It helps to prevent the leachfield from overloading and eventually failing.

Another part of this septic project included installing 80 feet of Infiltrator high capacity chamber and attaching the new line to the septic distribution box. The chambers provide a greater treatment area to handle more wastewater with higher efficiency. They’re engineered for strength and performance and have optimal installation flexibility. The chambers can be installed in straight line trenches or around curves and eliminate the need for stone and gravel.

Milton, GA Crossover Repair

In Milton, GA, Action Septic Tank Service performed a crossover. See the attached photo grid for some of our work.

For this onsite septic project, the drainfield was blocked due to root intrusion and sludge.  This caused 75% of the system to not function properly. The drainfield would not accept the water from the septic tank. This forced the water level inside the tank to overfill and backup into the house.  The toilets flushed very slowly and wouldn’t fully drain.

To repair, Action Septic Tank Service removed the outlet tee and blocked line going out from the back of the septic tank. We also pumped out the roots and sludge from the clogged line in the drainfield.  We added a new tee and crossed the line into a dry section of the drainfield.  Now the drainfield has an opportunity to flow in different directions.

Septic and drainfield failures are often caused by poor maintenance, root intrusion, too much organic matter in the effluent, soil that is overly saturated from storm water, hydraulic overloading, parking and driving vehicles and heavy machinery over the septic system, cracked pipes, and improper septic design, location and installation.

Alpharetta, GA Emergency Water Line Repair

image2In Alpharetta, GA, Action Septic Tank Service repaired a homeowner’s main water line. See the attached photo for a snapshot of our work.

For this on-site plumbing project, there was a break in the main water line between the meter and the home. The yard was flooding and the water needed to be turned off. Action Septic Tank Service located the break in the line, which was over five feet deep and less than a foot away from the front of the house. To repair the water line, we excavated within inches of brick and window and replaced the broken section of pipe. We then backfilled the work area, leveled it off and returned to its original grade.

Water lines often break due to poor soil conditions, root intrusion, improper maintenance and care, changes in water pressure, temperature changes and poor pipe material. Older pipes, often made of cast iron, clay, steel or tile, will likely deteriorate or corrode over time, causing water line breaks and leaks.

If your pipes crack and break, the water will usually find its way to the surface. You may notice cloudy water coming from the tap, a stammering faucet, flooding in your yard, saturated soil, and water surfacing by the meter. It is important to have your water turned off immediately to avoid further damage and possible danger. You should not use appliances or drink your water until the line is repaired.

Greywater Holding Tank Installation, Roswell, GA

img_2489In Roswell, GA, Action Septic Tank Service added a new separate greywater system to divert washing machine water away from the septic tank. See the attached photos.

This East Cobb installation included adding a greywater holding tank and high capacity chamber. The purpose of the holding tank is to collect and filter the greywater from the washing machine. This reduces the amount of effluent being handled by the septic tank and dispersed to the drainfield.

Greywater is gently used water from washing machines, showers, sinks, tubs and dishwashers. It may have traces of dirt, lint, sediment, sand, food, grease, cleaning products etc., but does not come into contact with sewage, also known as blackwater. However, under certain conditions, it is possible that traces of sewage may enter and contaminate greywater.

Greywater is safer to handle, easier to treat and contains fewer pathogens than wastewater. Where regulated, greywater can be reused for irrigation and acts as a valuable nutrient for plants. It is important to note that specific guidelines should be followed for greywater reuse. Greywater should not be released into lakes, rivers, streams and estuaries since its nutrients are pollutants.

Alpharetta GA Onsite Septic Repair

septic tank service alpheretta marietta atlanta georgia

For this Alpharetta, GA onsite septic project, Action Septic Tank Service repaired a residential septic system. On this job, we discovered the outlet end of the second septic tank buried underneath the fence post. Irrigation lines as well as the wiring for the sprinkler system were also running overtop the septic tank. All of the above made the work more complicated.

In order to access the outlet baffle and service the septic filter, we had to remove the obstructive portion of the fence. We also installed new septic risers on both tanks and brought them up to ground level. This makes it easier and more efficient to access the tanks without having to use a tractor and disturb the ground or sprinkler system. The troublesome part of the fence was also repositioned so it is no longer on top of the second tank. You can see the attached before-and-after photos of our work.

Septic Line Repair, Roswell, GA

image1-2In Roswell, GA, Action Septic Tank Service repaired a crushed, clogged septic line. See the photos attached.

Broken and crushed septic lines can cause backups and septic failure. When this occurs, you will see and smell sewage in and around your home.

Soil settling is one cause of damaged septic lines. Older, cast iron and ceramic lines can rust and corrode over time. Tree root intrusion also leads to clogged and broken pipes. Parking or driving heavy machinery and vehicles over your septic system may crush and collapse your lines as well.

Action Septic Tank Service suggests some of the following best practices to help keep your septic lines clear and free of clogs and breaks. Service your septic system on a regular basis. We urge our customers to have their septic tanks pumped every two years. Carefully plan your landscaping and plant trees and shrubs away from the septic system. Conserve water to prevent hydraulic overloading. You can use water-saving faucets, shower heads and toilets, take shorter showers, repair leaks and run your dishwasher and washing machine only for full loads. Avoid parking or driving heavy machinery over your septic system. Keep diapers, wipes, feminine hygiene products, coffee grounds, grease and other common cloggers from going down your drains.

In Alpharetta – Johns Creek, GA, Action Septic Tank Service replaced broken septic lids on a homeowner’s septic tank. See the attached photo. Rainy weather affects your septic system. The drainfield, or soil absorption system, is designed to manage a certain amount of water. When rainwater fills the septic system, there’s less available space for wastewater collection. To help avoid rain infiltration, your septic tank should be watertight, otherwise rainwater can enter the system and allow sewage to seep into the drainfield. Septic riser lids need not be broken and must be properly sealed. Broken riser lids like the ones shown in the attached photo have to be replaced. Careful landscape planning is important so that runoff water is directed away from your djainfield. Continue to monitor your septic system especially during rainy weather. Signs of rain infiltration may include patches of greener grass in your yard, depressions in the ground over the septic tank and surfacing effluent.

Septic Distribution Box Installation, Cumming, GA

action septic tank service atlanta georgiaIn Cumming, GA, Action Septic Tank Service added a new distribution box to a homeowner’s septic system. See the photo attached.

Your distribution box is usually made of concrete or plastic and is located between the septic tank and the drainfield. With the use of gravity, it distributes the effluent, or wastewater, to the drainfield. The effluent leaves the septic tank and travels through the inlet pipe to the distribution box. The wastewater is dispersed from the distribution box through the outlet pipe that leads to a series of trenches in the soil.

When installed, your distribution box must be level so that the effluent is evenly distributed, otherwise uneven loading occurs and parts of the soil trenches become overloaded. Over time, the distribution box may tilt. This is sometimes caused by the freezing and thawing of the ground during winter and spring. If the wastewater is unevenly dispersed, and some of the distribution pipes become overloaded, your septic system will fail and you may notice untreated wastewater surfacing in your yard. Equal wastewater distribution is necessary to help maximize the life of your septic system. Action Septic Tank Service recommends having the distribution box checked during your yearly septic inspection.
